Careers

Build the fleet.

01 — THE WORK
Design
Reactor, hull, heat transport, power cycle, mooring, cable. One integrated plant, designed to be built many times.
Build and test
Prototypes in our Aberdeen workshop and scale models in the basin. Results feed the design within weeks, not years.
License and deploy
A US-flagged fleet designed for worldwide deployment. Regulatory, marine and commercial work runs alongside the engineering.
02 — HOW WE WORK

Small team. Short lines. Engineers who have built submarines, subsea systems and nuclear plants, and who would rather test a thing than argue about it.

03 — OPEN ROLES

Mechanical Engineer

MECHANICAL · ABERDEEN · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

The physical systems that carry heat, pressure and load: structures, vessels, heat transfer equipment and mechanical handling, built to work at sea.

YOU WILL
  • Design components and assemblies from concept through detail to manufacture.
  • Own the structural, thermal and fluid analysis behind your designs.
  • Take parts through suppliers and the workshop, then test them.
  • Shape the layout and architecture of the wider system.
YOU BRING
  • Strong CAD (SolidWorks, NX, Onshape or similar) and sound drawing practice, including GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of FEA and thermal-fluid fundamentals.
  • An instinct for design for manufacture, and for what a machine shop can make this month.
  • Pressure equipment, rotating machinery, marine structures or code design (ASME) is useful, not required.

Electrical Engineer

ELECTRICAL · ABERDEEN · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

The electrical path from reactor to grid and compute: generation, conversion, distribution and protection, and the electronics behind our test hardware.

YOU WILL
  • Design generation, conversion and distribution systems, from MV switchgear down to board level.
  • Own protection, grounding and interconnection design, and the studies behind them.
  • Specify and procure major electrical plant, and hold suppliers to their commitments.
  • Build, wire and commission test setups, and debug them when they misbehave.
YOU BRING
  • Grounding in power systems and power electronics, ideally with analysis tooling (ETAP, PSCAD, PLECS, LTspice or similar).
  • Practical bench skills: wire a panel, use a scope, find a fault.
  • Awareness of electrical safety, EMC and the relevant industrial or marine standards.
  • Interest in grid interconnection and large-load integration is welcome.

Control and Instrumentation Engineer

CONTROLS · ABERDEEN · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

Make the plant observable and controllable: the sensors, the control system, the data, and the protection logic that keeps it safe.

YOU WILL
  • Design and implement control schemes for reactor, thermal and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Specify and install instrumentation, and build the data acquisition behind our test campaigns.
  • Automate test rigs so experiments run faster and produce data we can trust.
  • Contribute to the design of protection and safety systems.
YOU BRING
  • Solid control theory plus the practical side: PLCs, DCS, embedded controllers, or all three.
  • Confident in Python or equivalent for acquisition, analysis and automation.
  • Good sensor judgment: how to measure something, and how measurements lie.
  • Functional safety (IEC 61508) or nuclear I&C is useful, not required.

Nuclear Engineer

NUCLEAR · ABERDEEN / CAMBRIDGE · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

The reactor itself: core and fuel, thermal hydraulics, shielding, and the analysis that shows the design is safe and works.

YOU WILL
  • Carry out core physics, thermal hydraulic and shielding analysis to support design decisions.
  • Turn analysis into concrete requirements the rest of the team can build to.
  • Support the technical basis of the safety case and engage with regulators as we grow.
  • Check analysis against hardware in the lab and the workshop.
YOU BRING
  • Reactor physics and thermal hydraulics, and the codes used for them (OpenMC, Serpent, MCNP, RELAP, TRACE, Ansys or similar).
  • Comfortable writing your own tooling rather than only driving commercial codes.
  • Exposure to licensing or safety case work is a bonus, not a requirement.
  • Pragmatic about conservatism: you know where margin is worth paying for.

Nuclear Physicist

PHYSICS · ABERDEEN / CAMBRIDGE · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

The physics of the system: neutron transport, criticality, radiation transport and shielding, and the measurements that confirm the models.

YOU WILL
  • Perform neutronics and radiation transport analysis to inform core, shielding and layout design.
  • Assess criticality safety and support the physics side of the safety case.
  • Design and run measurement campaigns, and reconcile them with the models.
  • Advise on materials behavior under irradiation and what it means for the design.
YOU BRING
  • Monte Carlo or deterministic transport codes (OpenMC, Serpent, MCNP, Geant4 or similar).
  • Understanding of nuclear data, cross sections and their uncertainties.
  • Hands-on radiation detection and measurement experience is highly valued.
  • Interest in criticality safety, irradiated materials or fuel behavior is a plus.

Generalist Engineer

GENERALIST · ABERDEEN · FULL TIME
ENTRY LEVEL TO ~10 YEARS

Whatever the hardest problem is that week: a bracket on Monday, a pressure test on Wednesday, a supplier on Friday.

YOU WILL
  • Take problems from first sketch through to tested hardware.
  • Build and instrument test rigs, run campaigns, and turn the data into decisions.
  • Work hands-on in the workshop: fabrication, assembly and commissioning.
  • Own parts of the supply chain: specifying, sourcing and pushing vendors.
YOU BRING
  • Breadth across mechanical, electrical and software rather than depth in one.
  • Comfortable with CAD and with hand tools, and happy to move between them in a day.
  • You pick up unfamiliar domains fast and are not put off by work outside your degree.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, and with deciding before all the information is in.
04 — WHAT WE LOOK FOR
  • Evidence of exceptional technical ability. A portfolio of things you have built counts most, whether that is hardware at a fast paced company, a Formula Student car, an instrument you built in a lab, or a simulation you wrote.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline, physics or math. We hire recent graduates and experienced leads alike; leads still do hands-on work here.
  • Simplicity over complexity. Urgency. Care over details nobody will notice. Able to work with others in person and to figure things out alone. Comfortable managing and challenging suppliers.
  • Onsite five days a week, in Aberdeen or Cambridge. We build together, in person. Right to work in the UK, or willing to relocate; we consider visa sponsorship and relocation case by case, so tell us your situation in your first message and we will give you a straight answer.
05 — WHAT WE OFFER
  • Join the early stages, with the expanding scope that comes with it.
  • Low bureaucracy. A fast pace, with people who build.
  • Competitive salary and stock options.
06 — HOW TO APPLY

Send a simple CV and a list of three things you have built.

Links help: pictures, a portfolio page, videos, papers or a repository. If you have none, that is fine. Put the role in the subject line. No role that fits? If you have built something hard, apply by email anyway. We read everything and reply quickly.
